Twitter threat results in student arrest
November 20, 2015
Students desperately made phone calls to their parents in hope of getting to leave school early after a threat was made towards Bowie.
On November 17th an anonymous Twitter account was making threats. A picture was posted at 8:33 a.m. of a gun saying “@ 12 be readie for bowie to hav a schoo shootin”.
Administrators and officers were made aware of the tweet and made sure to have heavy security at school. A phone call to parents was made by AISD explaining the situation was under control.
Hours after the tweet being posted officers were able to trace down two phone numbers of where the tweets were coming from. Fox 4 reported that the numbers were from two students at the school and it was a hoax.
Arlington PD reported any social media made to AISD schools are guilty of felony terroristic threats.
On Wednesday November 18th student was identified and arrested on the charge of terroristic threat.
A post made by @ArlingtonPD said, “People who post threats on social media that cause alarm & interrupt @ArlingtonISD schools will be prosecuted for felony Terroristic Threat.”
